A meeting was held on Tuesday 12th March between various groups, agencies, and councillors from Tonypandy and Penygraig. A discussion on the future usage of the Mid Rhondda Athletic Field took place. From this discussion, the FOM would like to share the following with our community:
The Mid remains in the ownership of RCT County Borough Council and as such the decision as to its usage will remain with them, but they are agreed that the community play a big part in the process.
(It is our view that the community should have a major say).
As some may be aware fencing has been put up within the field to section off a playing area. The council are looking into possibly marking the area as a rugby pitch and obtaining an order to prevent dogs from entering that section of the Mid to make a safe playing area.
(It is our view that some provision should be made for the large dog-walking community who regularly use the field while accepting that the main area should be dog-free if it is to be accessible for community and sports use).
The Council officers in attendance assured everyone that this pitch would be open to all groups/teams equally and in fairness to all would not consider exclusive usage to one group/team.
Friends of the Mid are dedicated to this open space remaining at the heart of our community and will continue to update you on any further developments.
